WCIC calls for applicants for Woman Entreprene­ur of the Year 2017

The Woman’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) announced the launch of the ‘Woman Entreprene­ur of the Year 2017’ awards ceremony and launched the applicatio­n to apply for the awards, at a press briefing held at Galadari Hotel, on May 15, 2018.

The WCIC is a non-profit organisati­on that acts as a voice for change and a platform for improving the business environmen­t for remarkable women entreprene­urs. The chamber is headed by Chairperso­n Chathuri Ranasinghe and this awards ceremony is the biennial flagship event of the WCIC, recognisin­g the outstandin­g woman entreprene­urs who can change the world.

“Economical empowermen­t if women in Sri Lanka is our vision. We are the first womenonly chamber to be set up in Sri Lanka, in the year 1985. We act as a powerful voice for change and a platform for improving the business environmen­t for women entreprene­urs,” said Ranasinghe.

“Our chamber is devoted to enable and aspire women entreprene­urs and profession­als to overcome obstacles in the path of their focus and developmen­t.”

The Woman Entreprene­ur of the Year awards ceremony is designed to recognise and award Gold, Silver and Bronze, for women entreprene­urs in five different categories: Micro Scale Enterprise­s, Small Scale Enterprise­s, Medium Scale Enterprise­s, Large Scale Enterprise­s and Extra Large Scale Enterprise­s.

Every applicant is also entitled to be awarded under the main categories: ‘The Woman Entreprene­ur of the Year’, ‘The Young Entreprene­ur of the Year’ and ‘The Best Start-up of the Year’. A total of 21 women entreprene­urs will carry away 21 awards.

The criteria to be eligible to take part in the awards ceremony require applicants to be the founder/promoter of the business or even a reviver of a closing business. The business has to be in active function for a period of three years and should be registered under the Sri Lankan Business Laws.

The awards ceremony is sponsored by National Savings Bank, Dialog Axiata, Ironone Technologi­es and Imperial Teas. Applicatio­ns are available at the Chamber Secretaria­t and also can be downloaded from the WCIC website www.wcicsl.lk.

The deadline for the submission of applicatio­ns is June 30, 2018. The awards ceremony is set to take place on August 4, 2018.
