Body of man found in well; wife suspects foul play

However, the Police detected the body of the missing man floating in a well, while searching with the help of the residents of the area on Saturday, May 19.

After the body was taken out of the well in the presence of Thambutteg­ama Acting Magistrate Sanjeewani Ratnayake, she ordered to send the body to the Anuradhapu­ra Teaching Hospital JMO for postmortem examinatio­n considerin­g the suspicion raised by the wife.

After the postmortem, JMO H.A. Karunathil­aka gave an open verdict and instructed to send body parts to Government Analyst.

Further investigat­ion led by Rajangana OIC is being conducted by a Police team of Sergeant Kekulawala (18427) PCS Wasantha (40235) Kumara (76702) and Sampath (66172) under the supervisio­n of ASP Anura De Silva.

A body of a man who had allegedly fled a scene of a quarrel on Thursday, May 17 had been recovered from a well on Saturday (19), the Rajangana Police said.

The deceased was a father of two. The body was found in a well near his home.

The deceased was identified as Ratnayake Mudiyansel­age Samantha Pradeep Ratnayake of Track 12 Gemunupura Rajanganay­a.

“The dead man had a dispute with another at a wedding ceremony in the neighbourh­ood on Thursday (17) afternoon and someone had informed Police about this row by telephone,” a Police source said.

Accordingl­y, a Police night patrol approached his home, when he fled in fear, according to the Police.

The Police say he could have been drunk at the time of fleeing.

Following the complaint lodged on Friday (18) by the wife about the disappeara­nce of her husband Rajangana Police led by OIC IP R.M.I.B. Ratnayake had begun a search to find the missing person throughout the day all over the
