UNP Colombo Dist. Organiser criticises Senasinghe

Commenting on the statement made by State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe that he was prepared to return the money that was given to him by a company affiliated to Perpetual Treasuries Ltd head, Arjun Aloysius, a Working Committee member of the United National Party (UNP) said yesterday that the State Minister could not absolve himself of his act by returning the money he obtained in what he termed as an “underhand transactio­n”.

Priyantha Pathberiya, who is also a Colombo District organiser of the UNP, said at a media briefing in Athurugiri­ya organised by the “Kaduwela Anti-corruption Movement” that if one person could absolve himself by returning what he had received, all others in the county would follow suit when they were arrested. To our knowledge, one cannot acquire such wealth with the salary of a Member of Parliament

He said that Senasinghe should be sacked as a Minister as well as the UNP, for accepting money from a tainted business.

He called on President Senasinghe came to Colombo to study law. We would like to know as to how such a person has amassed such wealth to build hotels and own large swathes of land Maithripal­a Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe to expose those Parliament­arians, who had been associated with the fraudulent bond transactio­n, in order to cleanse the good name of other members of Parliament.

“Senasinghe came to Colombo to study law. We would like to know as to how such a person has amassed such wealth to build hotels and own large swathes of land,” Priyantha Pathberiya said.

“To our knowledge, one cannot acquire such wealth with the salary of a Member of Parliament,” he said.
