Buddha Sasana Minister to act tough

Minister of Buddha Sasana Gamini Jayawickreme Perera said step was being taken to pass legislation to take action against individuals insulting Buddhism by distorting the orthodox preaching of the Buddha.

The minister who met with Mahanayakes of the Malwatta Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Thibbotuwewe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera, briefed on the proposed plan for the enhancement of the Buddha Sasana. Later he told the media that the proposed plan framed under the guidance of the Mahanayake Theras would be placed before an advisory committee comprising the Minister of Justice. He said the Mahanayake Theras were concerned about the discipline of the Buddhist monks and that the undisciplined individuals attempting to distort the orthodox Thripitaka preaching of the Buddha would be brought to The proposed plan will be implemented under the guidance of the Mahasangha Theras. It is sad that organised groups are attempting to distort the orthodox preaching of the Buddha book if the proposed plan received the blessings of the Mahanayake Theras.
