Buddha Sasana Minister to act tough

Minister of Buddha Sasana Gamini Jayawickre­me Perera said step was being taken to pass legislatio­n to take action against individual­s insulting Buddhism by distorting the orthodox preaching of the Buddha.

The minister who met with Mahanayake­s of the Malwatta Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Thibbotuwe­we Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Warakagoda Gnanaratha­na Thera, briefed on the proposed plan for the enhancemen­t of the Buddha Sasana. Later he told the media that the proposed plan framed under the guidance of the Mahanayake Theras would be placed before an advisory committee comprising the Minister of Justice. He said the Mahanayake Theras were concerned about the discipline of the Buddhist monks and that the undiscipli­ned individual­s attempting to distort the orthodox Thripitaka preaching of the Buddha would be brought to The proposed plan will be implemente­d under the guidance of the Mahasangha Theras. It is sad that organised groups are attempting to distort the orthodox preaching of the Buddha book if the proposed plan received the blessings of the Mahanayake Theras.

Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana Chandrapre­ma Gamage , Commission­er of Buddhist Affairs in Kandy Parakrama Jayawarden­e were present at the occasion.
