Vavuniya Police foils an attempt to loot businessma­n

Vavuniya Police said that three suspects had been arrested yesterday in Settikulam­a area when they made an attempt to loot jewellery and money exchange bureau owned by a businessma­n who was in Puwarsanku­lama area in Vavuniya. They had come in luxury motor vehicles and tried to loot money at gun point.

The police said that they received a complaint that a gang had made an attempt to enter a businessma­n’s house by force in Warikuttur, Puwarasank­ulama in Vavuniya in a bid to remove money and jewellery last Wednesday and the suspects were arrested and the vehicle was detained after an investigat­ion. The suspects who came to the businessma­n’s house could not force open the doors and the inmates of the house had contacted the Police through police emergency number 119. investigat­ion, the police had found some toy pistols and some tools used for looting, inside the vehicle.

The Police said further that they were involved in various criminal activities in Colombo and the suspects were under a court warrant to be arrested. The persons arrested were in the age groups of 21,27 and 30 years and the residents of Colombo and Mannar. The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate.

A team of Police officers under the direction of Vavuniya Police Division SP. T.m.s.m.tennakone had arrested the suspects.
