Registrati­on extended for Codecraft secure coding competitio­n

Considerin­g numerous requests from the corporates, registrati­on deadline for Codecraft – Sri Lanka’s first ever competitio­n to find most secure coder – has been extended to July 06.

This nationwide competitio­n will see software developers competing to win the title of Sri Lanka’s Most Secure Coder. Winners will also be rewarded with Rs. 1 million worth of cash prizes, said Vasana Wickremase­na, Executive Director of CICRA Campus.

CICRA Campus – Sri Lanka’s pioneering cyber security training and certificat­ion organizati­on – and Daily FT are the co-organisers of this innovative competitio­n.

“Codecraft tests secure programmin­g ability of the candidates in three eliminatio­n rounds of closed-book online exams. We test participan­ts’ domain knowledge of secure coding and their ability to develop secure programs,” Wickremase­na said. “Ten percent of the highest scorers of each round will move to the next round and finally to the grand finale’,” he said.

“This competitio­n is aimed at supporting Sri Lankan Government’s mission to earn US$ 5 billion foreign exchange from export of software developed in Sri Lanka by 2022 by capacity building on the informatio­n security sphere amongst the Sri Lanka based BPOS, KPOS and Tech Startups,” he said.

The competitio­n is held in two tiers, namely corporate category for software developers and university category for students studying software developmen­t.

Number of organisati­ons including top corporates have partnered with Codecraft.

Ministry of Telecommun­ications and Digital Infrastruc­ture, Ministry of Higher Education, University Grant Commission of Sri Lanka, ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), and Sri Lanka Associatio­n of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) have endorsed the competitio­n.

The strategic partners of the competitio­n are Microsoft, Millennium IT and Dialog Axiata PLC; Bank of Ceylon is the official banker. The competitio­n is supported by print media partner Wijeya Newspapers Ltd comprising Daily Mirror, The Sunday Times, Lankadeepa, Ada and Tamil Mirror. The electronic media partners of the competitio­n are Derana TV, Ada Derena, Derana FM and Derana24x7. Creative partner is Triad.
