13TH AGM OF DEAF AND BLIND AID LANKA HELD IN LONDON

The 13th annual general meeting of Deaf and Blind Aid Lanka (UK registered charity 1123487) was held at the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) in London in the presence of the charity’s patron Lord Colin Low and the Acting High Commission­er Mr S Gunaratne recently.

The distinguis­hed guests, members and supporters enjoyed the light musical entertainm­ent on the piano provided by Enrico Allata and James Yorke. A Sri Lankan lunch was served prior to the meeting, which was enjoyed by all.

Sarath Weerasingh­e announced the proceeding­s by observing a two minute silence in memory of the late Priya Welikala, who was a founder member and treasurer of the charity and Sherwin Willatgamu­wa, a long standing member of the charity. This was followed by the Chairperso­n’s Report for 2017/2018 by Ameera Hussain who announced the visit of the patron Lord and Lady Low’s to Sri Lanka in September 2018. Afterwards the treasurer John Yorke presented his report for 2017/2018, and the new office bearers were accepted & elected.

Several well thought out proposals with regard to future fund raising events were then put forward by various DABAL members.
