FOURTH PERAHERA TONIGHT

Kataragama Esala Perahera

The Fourth Perahera of the annual Kataragama Esala Perahera, Mangalyaya, is scheduled to be held tonight at the historical Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya.

The Perahera is scheduled to be commenced from the main gateway of the Devalaya after chanting Seth Pirith and offering Buddha poojas at the Ashtapala Bodi and Maha Devalaya.

It will pass through the outer street and reach the Valli Amma Devalaya where traditiona­l rituals will be performed.

Then the Perahera will end today after coming to Maha Devalaya in front of the Office of the Basnayaka Nilame and Abhinavara­maya through the Main Street. A Spokesman of the office of the Basnayaka Nilame said. He said that that hundreds of thousands of people had so far viewed the Perahera, which commenced on Friday.

Wildlife Conservati­on Department Officials who were at the entrance gates in Yala Sanctuary said that more than 10,000 devotees came from the Northern and the Eastern Provinces through Yala National Park yesterday (15).

Four Dansalas have been arranged in the scared area at Daya Gamage Dana Salawa, Kiriwehera, Office of the Basnayaka Nilame, Sri Abinavaram­a Viharaya and Theivanai Amman Temple to provide meals to devotees. Dansalas have been organised at Vadihitika­nda, Sella Kataragama, Dutugamunu Vishrama Salawa, Hindu Pilgrims Rest and Sivadasan Samimadam as well.
