MOTHER OF 4-YR-OLD CHILD SCOLDED BY GALAHA DOCTOR, ASSAULTED

-

Sources revealed that the reason for her to be treated this way was allegedly her delay in getting her child to take off her shoes as well as the child starting to cough just as he was being taken in for treatment.

27-year-old M. Mithya Kalyani’s child had been suffering from influenza and she had taken the child to the Galaha hospital. It was standard practise at the hospital for patients to remove their footwear when entering the examination room. However, as this process had been delayed with regard to Kalyani and her child and because the child had begun to cough the doctor had become irritated and had admonished the mother for not training the child to put his palm over his mouth when coughing.the mother had pleaded with the doctor for this lapse saying he was too young to know better. However, the doctor had lost her temper and had directed an attendant to throw the mother and child out.the attendant had taken the opportunity to deal several blows on the helpless mother targeting her face.

The victim had brought this to the notice of her father who was working at the Peradeniya dental faculty.

When she was asked to explain the reason for her anger, the suspect doctor had said that the hospital had been newly tiled and therefore every patient has to remove his or her shoes before entering the consultation room. She denied having assaulted the victim. The OIC of the Galaha police station K.M.R.S. Konara was leading investigations into the allegation of assault.
