Vmware envisions to accelerate digitisation for local enterprises
Vmware Inc., a leading innovator in enterprise software, recently announced how it envisions to change the digital landscape by introducing a virtual cloud network to deliver an end-toend software-defined network architecture.
The company announced that it would be investing in Sri Lanka’s rapidly growing cloud economy and also the vision of a ‘Digital Inclusive Sri Lanka’. Vmware also announced that it strengthened its partnership with the cloud solutions arm of Dialog Axiata PLC, ‘Cumulus’, to strengthen Sri Lanka’s enterprise cloud market.
This collaboration will facilitate Dialog Axiata to offer to its consumers premium cloud services, using a fully automated and advanced next-gen premium cloud services platform powered by Vmware vcloud Director.
The expansion is in tandem with the country’s rapidly growing cloud industry with 85 percent of its businesses planning investments in digital infrastructure, contributing to a compound annual growth rate of 14.2 percent for the IT market spend between 2014 and 2019.
Vmware SEAK Vice President and Managing Director Sanjay Deshmukh elaborated on how the virtual cloud network would enable digital transformation in Sri Lanka. “Everything of value is connected to the network and this is accelerated through increasing the use of Internet of things (IOT), 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies as users connect not only through their desktop and laptop PCS but also through their mobile devices. To be future-ready and leverage this opportunity, businesses in Sri Lanka need to be equipped with the right network foundation.”
He went on to say, “A digital foundation built on Vmware enables organisations to flex and harness new technology at the speed at which it evolves without disrupting business operations. I’m very excited to announce the softwaredefined virtual cloud network, a new network approach that will provide organisations with robust and more secure connectivity.”
The virtual cloud network will enable businesses to create an end-to-end software-based network architecture that can deliver services to applications and data, wherever they are located. The virtual cloud network will operate at a global scale from edge to edge and deliver consistent, pervasive connectivity and intrinsic security for apps and data, independent of underlying physical infrastructure or location.
Vmware Nascent Markets Country Manager Daniel Choo said, “Powerful applications are now critical in sharpening a business’ competitive edge or boosting the quality of public sector services. As the Sri Lankan government initiates the digital economy development strategy, we are committed to facilitating organisations in Sri Lanka with the right tools to better innovate, deliver, manage, secure and connect apps to users and data, wherever they may be.”
In addition to this, Vmware also announced its networking and security portfolio ‘Vmware NSX’, which provides a common operating environment for customers to connect seamlessly with ensured security while operating a virtual cloud network. The portfolio enables consistent and pervasive connectivity and intrinsic security for apps and data across software defined data centre, branch, cloud and telco environments.
