WOMAN AND PARAMOUR ARRESTED OVER KILLING OF HUSBAND

Awoman and her paramour were taken into custody by the Mirihana Special Crime Investigation Unit on suspicion of killing the woman’s husband.the body that had been buried in the Hanwella public cemetery after the preliminary magisterial inquiry was to be exhumed today (23) in the presence of Homagama Actg. Magistrate Seetha Handunetti and the JMO.

The suspects Samarappuli Hewage Ramani (38) of Jayaweeragoda in Hanwella, and her lover a private bus driver Mohamed Arshad alias Ashan (27) were produced before the Actg. Magistrate and remanded till August 03. The victim Anura Gamini Kumara (44) of Jayaweeragoda father of a child had been clubbed to death on June 27, allegedly by the suspects. His wife, the suspect woman had made a complaint to Hanwella police that he had gone missing after he let home with a group of several others to organize a Dansela during the Poson festival in Anuradhapura.

However, during investigations the police recovered his body from Pusselioya canal in Hanwella on June 28.

Meanwhile the deceased’s mother made a complaint that she suspected foul play involving his wife and requested for a formal inquiry. His nine year old daughter told police that on June 27 night her mother and father had an altercation and she saw the suspects carrying her father’s body and dumping it into the canal, and they warned her not to divulge the secret.
