Anti-smoking awareness programme in Addalaichchenai

A programme against the use of drugs under the theme of “Addalachchenai sans smoking” would be held on July 27th, President of the Addalaichchenai Traders Association A.P. Noorul Haq yesterday.

The Addalaichcenai Traders Association and the Addalaichchenai Development Council had jointly passed a resolution to eradicate the use of tobacco and alcohol in the Addalaichchenai area, he said.

He said that the traders had unanimously taken a decision to refrain from selling tobacco based products and that they would take a pledge on that day to implement the ban.

“Smoking causes diseases, premature death and economic hardships, disrupting the advancement of the society. As such, we want to get rid of this menace so as to protect the society and transform Addalaichhenai into a tobaccofree region,” Mr.haq said.

Ulamas, Physicians, presidents of mosques, lawyers, police, principals of schools and representatives of social service organisations and traders were expected to participate in the awareness procession on Friday, he said.
