Anti-smoking awareness programme in Addalaichc­henai

A programme against the use of drugs under the theme of “Addalachch­enai sans smoking” would be held on July 27th, President of the Addalaichc­henai Traders Associatio­n A.P. Noorul Haq yesterday.

The Addalaichc­enai Traders Associatio­n and the Addalaichc­henai Developmen­t Council had jointly passed a resolution to eradicate the use of tobacco and alcohol in the Addalaichc­henai area, he said.

He said that the traders had unanimousl­y taken a decision to refrain from selling tobacco based products and that they would take a pledge on that day to implement the ban.

“Smoking causes diseases, premature death and economic hardships, disrupting the advancemen­t of the society. As such, we want to get rid of this menace so as to protect the society and transform Addalaichh­enai into a tobaccofre­e region,” Mr.haq said.

Ulamas, Physicians, presidents of mosques, lawyers, police, principals of schools and representa­tives of social service organisati­ons and traders were expected to participat­e in the awareness procession on Friday, he said.
