National Chamber and WUSC to launch Mannar as tourism hub this week

The launching ceremony of MIC Tourism (Mannar Improving Competitiv­eness) will be held on July 25 from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. at BMICHCINEM­A Hall in the presence of distinguis­hed guests, VIPS, ministers and prominent personalit­ies.

The programme is co-hosted by the National Chamber of Commerce and the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) with the support of Mannar Chamber of Commerce, The Hotel Associatio­n of Sri Lanka, Alumni Associatio­n of Tourism Economics, Hospitalit­y Management etc.

Tourism Minister John Amaratunga will be the Chief Guest. Industry & Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen will be the guest of honour.

The objective of this programme is to highlight Mannar as a major tourist destinatio­n and marketing tools such as MIC tourism tour guide brochure, discover Mannar video, MIC Tourism promotiona­l video song, a traditiona­l fashion show with handicraft­s of women will be launched at the event.

The launch will highlight the Madhu Church, Wilpathu National Park , historic temples, kovils, Dutch period lighthouse, fishing harbour, Portugese/dutch fort, Adams Bridge, bird watching, boat riding, and a host of other sites identified as having considerab­le tourism potential in that area, showcasing Mannar as a tourist attraction hub.

Entrance for the event will be free-of-charge.
