CEMS to hold first ever Colombo Bike Show with dedicated platform for e-bikes

-

The Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) Global USA and CEMS Lanka will hold the first ever Colombo Bike Show 2018 at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC), Colombo from August 2-5, with a dedicated electric motorcycles platform to promote the e-bike segment in Sri Lanka.

Addressing a press conference yesterday to officially announce the Colombo Bike Show 2018, CEMS Lanka, Country Director, Ejaz S. Sarwar said that even though e-bikes only accounts for about 1 percent in Sri Lanka’s two wheeler market, the e-bike segment will soon catch up along with the trends in the South and South East Asian regions. He noted that e-bikes are increasingly becoming popular in the region, capturing the South and South East Asian markets.

“There are already e-bike importers in Sri Lanka; however, what we have noticed is that they don’t have a sufficient exposure yet in the industry. They are still lacking that platform to showcase themselves to the public that e-bikes can be used on a daily basis. So that’s the reason we have made available this platform for e-bikes sector as well,” he said.

Sarwar stressed that once the demand pick up in e-bikes, the related facilities will also come up. According to him 7-8 e-bike exhibitors have confirmed their participation for the event so far.

Commenting on the prices of e-bikes in Sri Lankan market, AMW Private Ltd – Yamaha, Regional Manager, Manoj Indika Galawatte said that the public can expect to purchase e-bike at around price of Rs 80,000.

Moreover, the exhibition will also encompass leading motorcycle distributors and dealers along with lubricant companies, battery and international automotive component manufacturers and importers, who will be showcasing their latest products and services. Sarwar noted that 75-80 exhibitors will participate in the 4 day exhibition while leading motorcycle distributors and dealers along with lubricant companies, battery companies and automotive component manufacturers and importers from China, India and Bangladesh also expected to exhibit their latest products.

“The `Colombo Bike Show 2018’ will become the leading international exhibition of Sri Lanka on motorbikes, e-bikes auto parts sector and will be a one-stop single platform to showcase the latest developments and emerging technology for the motorbike and entire automobile industry. This event will promote the Sri Lankan and world motorbike and autocomponent industry thus revealing the country’s rapid developments in this industry and will also be a launching platform for many new Bikes as well as new technology components,” he stressed.

Galawatte noted that despite the 5 percent drop in two wheeler registration in last month, the two wheeler sales have been growing at average of 10 percent YOY in the first six months of the year.

He said that due to the lack of developments in Sri Lanka public transport sector, the public is increasingly relying on private transport methods, and motor bikes have become a poplar mode of transport, particularly in the Western Province, Kurunegala district and in Down South.

The show will be open for trade and public visitors free-of-charge from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day from 2-5 August 2018 at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, Colombo – 10.
