Fujian General Chamber of Commerce inaugurated in Sri Lanka to assist biz community
The Fujian General Chamber of Commerce, alongside the Fujian Local Association, recently marked its presence in Sri Lanka, with an inauguration ceremony held at Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo, recently.
The chamber will act as a platform for cooperation and exchange between the Fujian and Sri Lanka business community.
The ceremony was attended by overseas representatives of the Fujian origin from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines and other countries, as well as the Sri Lankan business community, totalling a participation of over 400.
Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake and Provincial Councils, Local Government and Sport Minister Faiszer Mustapha were among the dignitaries present at the event.
This initiative aims to further promote China-sri Lanka traditional friendship and bilateral economic and trade cooperation. It also complements to the Belt and Road Initiative advocated by President Xi to adapt to the growing investment opportunities in the region.
Fujian General Chamber of Commerce and Fujian Association Sri Lanka President Zheng Jinshan highlighted that Sri Lanka is one of the most important countries along the Maritime Silk Road and that he believes there will be more and more opportunities and cooperation between China and Sri Lanka to provide better benefits for both countries due to this initiative.
To cope with the risks and challenges in trade, the entrepreneurs and businessmen of the Fujian origin in Sri Lanka, actively promoted by State Council President Zheng Jinshan, have been preparing for over eight months for the launch of the institution in Sri Lanka.
