PARLIAMENT SESSIONS END ABRUPTLY

Parliament sessions came to an abrupt end for the second consecutive day yesterday, when it has to be adjourned due to the absence of MPS who were to speak during the debate on Apartment Ownership (Special Provisions) Bill and regulations imposed under the Construction Industry Development Act No 1.

Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri, who was at the Chair called the names of MPS who were to speak but none of them were present at that time.

These include Thushara Indunil, Mujibur Rahaman, S. M. Marikkar, Hesha Vithanage and Chamindra Wijesiri from the Government benches and Padma Udayashantha Gunasekera, Kanaka Herath, Indika Anuruddha, Charles Nirmalanathan, Douglas Devananda and Sunil Handunetti from the opposition benchers.

Only three members including Minister of Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa, Joint Opposition MP T. B. Ekanayake and Government MP Bandula Lal Bandarigoda participated in the debate.

However, the Apartment Ownership (Special Provisions) Bill and the regulations under the Construction Industry Development Act were passed unanimously.

Sessions came to an abrupt end on Tuesday as well, as the sessions had to be called off without taking a vote on the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters (Amendment) Bill again due to the absence of MPS.
