HRCSL to conduct Youth Camp

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) is organising a Youth Camp to mark the 70th Anniversar­y of the Universal

Declaratio­n of Human Rights at which youth from 25 districts will be brought together. During the camp, participan­ts will take part in an experienti­al learning process and acquire competence­s in the fields of intercultu­ral learning and dialogue within a human rights framework.

Interested parties aged between 18 and 25 years can collect the Applicatio­n from HRCSL website (www.hrcsl.lk) or Divisional Secretaria­t or HRCSL Regional Offices.

The Camp’s main objectives are to develop awareness and basic competenci­es (knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and also appreciati­on of human rights value base that respects equality of freedom of choice, freedom of speech, associatio­n and assembly, the right to a decent life, respecting other’s rights) of participan­ts in human rights, diversity and pluralism, intercultu­ral learning and dialogue, including a critical understand­ing of personal and collective identities and their role in different human rights situations.

To enable participan­ts to share personal experience­s of human rights issues and violence and develop strategies in a positive and safe atmosphere of living and learning together; To motivate and support participan­ts in their role as multiplier­s and peer leaders to stand for human rights with the youth by encouragin­g them to implement follow-up initiative­s; To promote and share existing youth work practices and experience­s of young people working on dialogue and human rights protection in their home communitie­s; To strengthen the role of the HRCSL, in particular through the youth for the protection and promotion of human rights, in its efforts towards strengthen­ing youth work in the field of human rights, social cohesion and intercultu­ral dialogue.
