HC TRIAL-AT-BAR SUMMONS GOTA, 6 OTHERS
Alleged misappropriation of public funds amounting to some Rs.50 million
Former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and six others were ordered to appear before the High Court Trial-atbar on September 10 to answer charges filed against them in connection with the misappropriation of public funds amounting to some Rs.50 million.
They are alleged to have used the funds belonging to the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLRDC) to build the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial and museum at Medamulana.
The six others are SLRDC’S ex-chairman L.A. Prasad Harshana de Silva, former manager B.U. Kamaladasa, S.K. Attygalla, S.K. Galappathy. M.D.M. Saliya and M.A. Mallika. The seven accused were indicted by the Attorney General at the HC Trial-at-bar under the Public Property Act and the Penal Code on charges of abusing public property. The FCID after conducting investigation on the matter had reported to the Attorney General that the seven accused had conspired to commit breach with regard to Rs.48,563,929 belonging to the SLRDC.
They were indicted on 49 charges and the case will be taken up for trial by Judges Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne on September 10.
