Ven. Sobitha Thera’s statue unveiled
Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, who was in the forefront of the present political change, did not live to build the country he dreamed of, The Mahanayake of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Sangha Sabha, Vice Chancellor of the Sri Jayewardenepura University Ven. Prof. Ittepane Dhammalankara Thera said.
Showed a particular kindness to the people in this remote area of Elapathgama and took much pain to help them... He wanted to see the development of the whole country...
Addressing a gathering at the ceremony to unveil the statue of the Late Ven. Sobhitha Thera at the Sri Sobhitharamaya Temple in Elapathgama in Mahawilachchiya in Anuradhapura, he said the passing away of Ven. Sobitha Thera, who pioneered that political change sent a shockwave across the country.
Erecting the statue of Ven. Sobitha Thera was funded by members of Dayaka Sabha of the Kotte Sri Naga Vihara including Mjr. Gen. Chavi Gallage, his mother Daisy Gallage, and others of his family.
“Ven. Sobitha Thera showed a particular kindness to the people in this remote area of Elapathgama and took much pain to help them.
“The present Government has taken steps to continue the development programme initiated by the Ven. Thera. He wanted to see the development of the whole country, but he lost the opportunity to realise it.
“Ven. Sobitha Thera was a leading Buddhist monk who dedicated the whole of his life to the wellbeing of the Buddha Sasana and the country,” Ven. Dhammalankara Thera said.
Mjr. Gen. Chagi Gallage, Commander of the Vanni Security Forces Headquarters Mjr Gen. Kumudu Perera, Anuradhapura Govt. Agent R.M. Wanninayake and several senior officials were present.
