Govt. to extend Suwasariya ambulance service countrywide: Dr. Harsha
The Government has planned to extend the 1990 Suwasariya ambulance service to the entire country before the end of this year, National Policy and Economic Affairs State Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva said.
We should be extremely grateful and thankful to the Indian Government for providing this opportunity for Sri Lanka
He expressed these views at an event held in Hali Ela Foreign Employment Service Centre of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment where 26 units of 1990 ambulances were distributed to the Uva Province
“Extension of the Suwasariya service to the whole country would be done through an Act of Parliament, after which necessary funds would be allocated in the annual budget for its maintenance, Dr. Harsha said.
“Suwasariya ambulance service has facilitated 90,000 patients since 2016. Therefore, we thought of broadening this service concerning the welfare of the people of this country”.
He said this service was launched in 2016 as a fulfilment of the promise given by Indian Prime Minter Narendra Modi in 2015.
“We should be extremely grateful and thankful to the Indian Government for providing this opportunity for Sri Lanka,” he said.
“Although it is a donation from India, the Sri Lanka Government will have to allocate funds for its upkeep, he added.
