SLFP won’t deal with UNP or SLPP in future

- BY SANDUN A JAYASEKERA

Dilan Perera has only spared Gauthama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed from his malicious rhetoric. Therefore, it is not surprising that he is targeting us for his verbal abuse

Under no circumstances will the SLFP strike a deal with either the UNP or the SLPP before or after the upcoming elections to the provincial councils, the presidential election or the parliamentary elections, UPFA General Secretary and Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera said yesterday.

He said the SLFP was confident of winning all three elections, electing the next President and forming the next government.

The minister said the SLFP had become stronger and determined after the reorganization carried out under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena and would be the SLFP candidate at the 2020 presidential election.

He told the SLFP executive committee of the Mulkirigala electorate despite any attempts by any vested interests to the contrary, the SLFP would never join the SLPP even though some SLFPERS support it.

Commenting on remarks made by dissident group member Dilan Perera, the minister said what Dilan Perera knew best was to insult, quarrel or pick fights with fellow MPS or make vituperative remarks

against rival political parties. “He has only spared Gauthama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed from his malicious rhetoric. Therefore, it is not surprising that he is targeting us for his verbal abuse,” he said.

The minister said some of the dissidents were accusing Minister Duminda Dissanayaka and me of destroying the SLFP.

“But it is quite obvious to any right-thinking person as to who is attempting to destroy the SLFP by betraying it and supporting and campaigning for another party,” he said.

He said those who criticize the yahapalanaya government have not seen any reason to quit the government during the first three years, but all hell broke loose after the electoral setback suffered by the SLFP at the February local government elections.

“Yes, we suffered a setback at the LG elections. But the SLFP has gone through a drastic change with its reorganization. No sooner the detractors and those who have betrayed the party are got rid of, the SLFP will be a new and strong political party confident of facing any political challenge,” the minister said.
