Accused of a murder case commits suicide in Parasangaswewa
An accused of a murder case pending before the court committed suicide by hanging yesterday after stabbing his wife and her sister, according to Parasangaswewa police. He was accused of killing his wife’s mother four years ago following a family dispute.
The man had come on a motorcycle yesterday morning and entered the house at Rathnayaka Mawatha Anduketiyawa in Parasangaswewa where his wife was living with her sister . He had stabbed both of them. After stabbing the two women he had hanged himself from a beam in the kitchen as revealed in the preliminary investigation.
The dead man was identified as Herath Mudiyanselage Asoka Herath (36), a resident of Jaffna Junction in Anuradhapura.
The two women severely injured with stabbing injuries and admitted to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital are the deceased’s wife Nisansala Mihirani (35) and her sister Sansala Mihirani(17).
In 2014 he had ambushed and stabbed his wife and the mother-in-law D.G. Padmawathi (54) in Elapara Thannayamkulam Anuradhapura killing the mother-in-law and severely injuring his wife while they were riding on a motor cycle. In this incident the wife had escaped death but lost one of her hands due to injuries sustained in stabbing.
Anuradhapura Police then arrested the evading man after a few weeks and produced in court. He was released on bail after about one year in remand custody.
There had been disputes often among this family members and a few weeks ago he had been arrested for assaulting his wife.
He was remanded after being produced in court and and later released on bail. Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday visited the scene and after the magisterial inquest ordered to send the body to the JMO of Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for a postmortem.
SI Nimal Jayawardena, Sgt. Maithripala (24950) PCS Manjula (60993) Indika (48215 ) led by Parasangaswewa OIC Jayalath Senadeera are continuing investigation.
