becomes first Lankan actress to act in Chinese tele serial
Multi-faceted, gifted actress Nadeesha Hemamali who is known as a happening heroine, added another feather to her cap when she became the first Sri Lankan actress to act in a Chinese tele serial. Nadeesha returned to Sri Lanka recently after completing the shooting mission in China while another schedule is coming up in Sri Lanka next month. The Lankachina coproduction titled ‘You Are Always With Me’ is based on a story revolving around the impact on eyes and cornea donation and is the first such collaboration in the history of Sri Lanka-china ties spanning more than six decades. Commenting on this historic mission, Nadeesha told Daily Mirror Life Impulse that it was indeed a memorable experience. “I had to work with the top most actors and actresses in China and I was stunned by their level of professionalism, creativity and also the cordiality extended to me and Devinda Kongahage who is the co director of the project. Their professional working styles are awesome,” she said. Nadeesha who surpasses her 16th year as an actress, also became the first Lankan actress a few years ago to portray a lead role in a Telugu movie titled ‘Rascal’. The award-winning actress who also produced the outstanding tele serial ‘Ethkanda Lihiniya’, recently took oaths as a Justice of the Peace too. “I have resumed acting after a brief lull. I am playing the lead in the newest tele serial ‘Hiru Deva’ which is now being picturised,” she said. The Chinese-lankan tele collaboration is facilitated in Sri Lanka by Cine Tele International. Devinda Kongahage thus became the first Sri Lankan to serve as the co-director, co-executive director and co-executive producer of this project for the first time in history. “This high budget project is based on the concept of donating cornea and creating awareness on its positive impact. In China where the population is some 1.3 billion, the tendency for cornea donation is very, very low compared to Sri Lanka which only has a 21 million population. The main director of this tele serial is Cui Yali. We have a Sri Lankan shooting schedule of this project due soon in which Bimal Jayakody will also join the cast,” said Devinda.
