HC RELEASES HIRUNIKA’S PASSPORT
She hopes to attend a workshop abroad The passport has to be returned on October 8
The Colombo High Court (HC) today released UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra’s passport which was impounded by Court in connection with the Dematagoda abduction case.

A 34-year-old individual was abducted by a group of six persons who arrived in a Land Rover Defender which was reportedly owned by Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra.
Dec 23, 2015:
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) arrested six suspects and seized the defender belonging to UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra. MP Hirunika Premachandra, arrested by the CCD in connection with the abduction and was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
Nov. 06, 2017:
Eight out of the nine suspects who were accused of abduction in 2015, accepted the charges levelled against them
She requested the HC to release her passport as she intended attending a workshop organised by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
High Court Judge Shahai Mahendran released the passport till October 8.
Seven suspects, found guilty of abducting a man at Dematagoda in 2015, were sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) suspended for 12 years by High Court Judge R. Gurusinghe on November 24 last year.
MP Premachandra, the ninth suspect refused to accept the charges.
