We never said SLFP will form govt. the day after ‘Janabalaya Kolombata’- Dilan

- BY SANDUN A JAYASEKERA

Member of the SLFP dissident group, Badulla District Parliamentarian Dilan Perera yesterday said neither he nor any member of the rebel group said an SLFP government would be formed the day after the ‘earth shattering’ protest in Colombo to topple the UNP led ‘Yahapalana Government’.

He reiterated that an SLFP government with Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister would be formed before the next Sinhala-hindu New Year.

Dismissing the suggestions from the media that the protest staged by the joint opposition in Colombo last Wednesday ‘Janabalaya Kolombata’ was a bust, Mr. Perera said it was an ‘ear splitting’ response to the ‘Yahapalana Government’ and a clear message to President Maithripala Sirisena.

“It was a highly successful protest and a chance for the masses to express their anger at the actions of the government. They showed that they wanted to replace the UNP led ‘Yahapalana Government’ with an SLFP government with Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister. This is a direct and forceful message

to President Sirisena and he cannot ignore this demand from the people who came to Colombo from all parts of the country. Therefore, its better that President Sirisena acts sooner and forms a government replacing Ranil with Mahinda as the Prime Minister,” Mr. Perera said.

Mr. Perera said the JO has the capability of roping in 113 MPS with SLFP’S 70 and the support of minority parties, Ven. Ratana Thera and a few from the UNP to command a simple majority in Parliament.

This was all that was needed to force President Maithripala Sirisena to appoint Mahinda as the Prime Minister and form a government with him.

“It is a known fact that all minority parties stand with either the UNP or the SLFP if and when either of them forms a government as they want to align themselves with the party in power at the time,” he added.
