SJC take home U-16 Boys Hockey C’ship 2018

Ross Abner and Ross Clever powered St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10 to the boys title at the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Associatio­n (SLSHA) Division ‘B’ Inter School Hockey Championsh­ip 2018 (Under-16) which concluded at the Edward Park Hockey Ground in Matale with a 2-0 win over fancied Vidyaloka Vidyalaya, Galle in the final.

The closely contested final between St. Joseph’s and Vidyaloka saw centre forward Ross Abner firing the first goal of the two goals in the third minute of play to lead 1-0 at the short whistle, while his brother left half Ross Clever scored the other goal for his school in the 22nd minute of play to give his school a 2-0 win and the title.

Vidyaloka outplayed their home town rivals Mahinda College, Galle 2-0 while St. Joseph’s College, Colombo had the better of Ananda

Central College, Colombo 15 1-0 in their respective semi finals.

In the play off for the third place Ananda Central beat Mahinda 3-2 on penalties after a scoreless draw at full time.

Keith Joshuwa of St. Joseph’s was named the Best Player while the award for the Best Goal Keeper went to Danuja Nethsara of Vidyaloka Vidyalaya, Galle.

16 teams across the island participat­ed in the Division ‘B’ Hockey competitio­n conducted by the SLSHA.
