SL Navy built two ICPS handed over to Coast Guard
Two Inshore Patrol Craft (IPCS) built by the Sri Lanka Navy at a cost of Rs. 80 million were handed over to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard on Friday.
The Navy said the two IPCS, which were built by the Inshore Patrol Craft Construction Project located at the Naval Complex Welisarawere formally handed over at the Colombo harbour on Friday.
“The craft has been built under the supervision of Navy engineers and making use of advanced research and technical know-how in view of delivering quality output in accordance with international standards,” the SLN said in a media communiqué.
The ceremony was presided over by Navy Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva and Director General Coast Guard Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunga representing both organizations.
The Navy said the 15m long and 3.5m wide craft were capable of pick- up speeds of 35 nautical miles per hour and they had been designated as CG 209 and CG 210.
The handover of these craft by the Navy would help proper execution of Law of the Sea which also comes under Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s 3-year plan.
Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Director General Operations Rear Admiral Niranjan Attygalle and a host of senior officers and sailors from the Naval Headquarters, Western Naval Command and Sri Lanka Coast Guard were present.
