Soccer veterans remembered at SLSMA Tournament

The 9th Annual (Over 40) soccer tournament 2018 conducted by the Sri Lanka Soccer Masters Association (SLSMA) will get underway shortly this month. This year 29 teams from Colombo and 22 teams from the outstation (Negombo, Wennappuwa, Badulla, Ampara, Batticaloa, Nawalapitiya, Ratnapura, Trincomalee, Kurunegala, Matale, Vavuniya, Maruthamunai, Kandy and Kegalle will battle it out for this year’s championship.

The Colombo Teams are divided into 8 groups and the top eight will qualify to play in the Prequarter-finals and the four teams from Colombo will qualify to play in the Quarter- Finals.

Outstation teams are divided into four zones as follows:

Zone 1 (A) - Badulla, kandy, matale. Zone 1 (B) - Kandy, Matale and Badulla Zone 2 - Kegalle, kurunegala and

Ratnapura

Zone 3 - Negombo, Wennappuwa,

Divulapitiya

Zone 4 (A)- Trincomalee, Ampara,

Batticaloa,

Zone 4 (B) - Trincomalee, Ampara, Vavuniya,

The champions of the four zones will qualify to play in the Quarter- finals with the four Teams from Colombo. The open draw will be held at the Quarter-final stage.

Apart from the Cash Prizes the following trophies will be presented:

Late Daya Tennakoon (Founder President SLSMA) Memorial Challenge Trophy (Winner).

Late Neville Abeygunawardena ( Founder General Secretary SLSMA) Memorial Trophy (Runners-up).

Late K.k.chandradasa (President – SLSMA) Memorial Trophy (Valauble Player – Finals).

Late J.p.n.fernando (General Secretary – SLSMA) Memorial Trophy (Valuable Goal Keeper –Finals). - BM
