THE SON RISES

-

Priya Suriyasena’s only son Luckshitha Suriyasena who was in the US for six years is back in the country with two Engineering degrees and a doctorate in Nanotechnology. Luckshitha who also possesses extraordinary singing talents, recently launched a song and music video titled ‘Adarawanthi’ which has become a hit by now. “We were brought up in a musical atmosphere. We always saw and heard my father singing. My mother was also a music teacher. But my three sisters and I never took up a musical career because my father wanted us to choose our own path. Music has become our hobby that keeps us going. I have already done 3 of my originals,” said Luckshitha. “I hope my musical interest and the popularity I gain through it would benefit my professional objectives too. I hope to serve my country in the technology and educational sectors. My next immediate goal is to organise a solo musical concert of my father who completes 50 years in music. The biggest hurdle would be finding the main sponsors. But I am sure it won’t be an issue for my father because he is a distinguished artiste of this country.” “The responsibility of preserving my father’s songs has also fallen on my shoulders. I’d like to request individuals and some bands not to sing distorted versions of my father’s songs, because my father can still sing well. After him I am there to take the baton,” he said. “My father recently found an old song written by Premakeerthi De Alwis after about 30 years in one of his old files. Appachchi composed a melody last year and gave it to me to sing. I think it is the latest and the last song or veteran lyrics writer Prem uncle (after 40 years).”
