HOW TO START THE DAY RIGHT!

-

It’s not a complicated series of steps to be taken, you do not have to go to great lengths to get it right, you simply have to make one small event a priority in the morning, and that is breakfast! Pressed for time and lacking the patience to commit, many forgo breakfast in the hope of catching a quick bite later.

This is a sure fire way to not get the full potential out of your day. Breakfast, how ever insignificant it might seem to one in a busy morning, with school going children to be organised, last minute work calls to be made or the rest of the household chores to be delegated, a sit down breakfast is the last worry on your mind. Studies have shown how we fuel our bodies in the morning helps to enhance our cognitive performance during the day. This is more so the case when it comes to schoolgoing children.

After a long night of rested sleep the child is essentially nutrient free when starting the day. Now if they were to skip breakfast they start the day on an empty stomach, with not much energy to kick-start their all too many important body functions like brain activity, growth spurts and general energy to act and perform effectively. By mid morning the child becomes moody and lethargic, not committing to any school lessons, lacking energy to be an active participant in the school discussions. The next break sees them reaching for unhealthy foods to satisfy any hunger pangs. Practice of such behaviour in the long run will result in childhood obesity. The child spends the rest of the day literally on fumes, without having had a good start to the day with a well balanced breakfast.

What could have been a day with immense potential, was a day merely survived. Therefore help your child achieve the best that they can be, make breakfast an important part of your family routine every day!
