SENIOR JOHN TARBAT ATHLETICS FROM SEP 19 TO 21 IN COLOMBO

Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL) will sponsor the Ritzbury 88th Sir John Tarbat Senior and Junior Athletic Championships for the eighth successive year. The event is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association (SLSAA) and the Senior Championships will be held from September 19 to 21 at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.

The Junior Championship will be held from October 17 to 19 at the National Stadium in Anuradhapura.

The three age categories in the Senior Athletics Championships are: Under-16, Under-18 and Under 20 (Boys and Girls).

Neville Rodrigo, Secretary, Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association, said that over 4,500 athletes will participate at the Senior Meet.

The performances of the senior meet will pave the way to form a Youth Athletic Pool for the 2019 Asian Youth Athletics Championships.

At the meet held last year Maris Stella College, Negombo won the Boys Championship. The Girls event was won by Walala Ratnayake MMV.

Over 5,000 athletes will take part in the Final Stage of the Junior Championships.

There were three Provincial Stages to select the athletes for the final stage and they were held in Hanwella, Bogambara and Polonnaruwa.

The four age groups for the Junior Meet are: Under-12, Under-13, Under-14 and Under 15.

Last year St. Joseph’s College, Colombo emerged Boys Champions and the Girls Champions was annexed by Janadhipathi Balika, Nawala.

Nilupul De Silva, General Manager (Marketing), CBL Foods International Pvt. Ltd, hands over the sponsorship package to Sunil Jayaweera, Advisor (Sports and Physical Health) and Ministry of Education.
