A multitude of suggestions to make the area liveable and comfortable

Members have every intention of performing a valuable service to the people

Lunawa Hospital which provided an immense health service to the people of Moratuwa in the past has become another public institute often receiving complaints. Members of the public who come to this hospital seeking medical treatment have been turned away and requested to travel to the Panadura or Kalubowila Hospitals.

Moratuwa Municipal Council member Nishantha Ferdinando (JVP) expressed his views at the monthly sessions of the UC held recently chaired by Moratuwa Mayor W. Samanlal Fernando (SLPP).

He also congratulated the Mayor for being elected as the chairman of the Mayors’ Conference and requested that he use his new position to serve the people and improve the Lunawa Hospital to provide a better service to the people in Moratuwa and also for people in areas beyond Moratuwa.

Sujith Pushpakumara (UPFA) member expressed his discontent over the minutes of the previous meeting as it had distorted his speech and asked the officials to summarise the members speeches so as to give the substance of what they speak.

JHU member Sajith Duminda said there are some among the MC members who disrupt the service of street lighting, directing the MC employees not to serve the areas of supporters of the opposition parties.

Deputy Mayor Samantha Silva stressed the need of extensive raids on places where unhygienic foods are sold to people causing various diseases and asked PHIS to take the necessary steps to ensure the supply of high standard food to the people.

SLPP member Asoka Indrathilaka also spoke of the bad food being sold and the unsuitable locations of some eateries withing the town and focused the attention of the Chief PHI.

Ravindra Ranga Fernando (JVP) wanted to know the present position of the crematorium repair works, to which the Mayor responded saying the repairs had been completed.

Opposition leader Senaka Damayantha (UNP) asked the ruling party to give equal position to members of all the parties in the programmes conducted by the MC.

Ransiri Fernando (SLPP) requested to begin the work of repairs needed to the Angulana-lunawa bridge, while Nishantha Ferdinando showed the need of sanitary facilities necessary at the Moratuwa medical clinic premises.

Asoka Indrathilaka (SLPP) said the fee charged for an assessment report should be revised to Rs.300 instead of the present fee of Rs.40/-.

Mayor Saman Lal Fernando requested to provide new employment in the security service rather than paying overtime of Rs.700,000 to the present security services.

MC members Sujith Duminda Pieris, Subhashini Wickremasinghe and Sudesh Indrajith also spoke.
