ST. JOSEPH’S CLASH WITH ST. SEBASTIAN’S FOR SUPREMACY
St. Joseph’s College Colombo and St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa will clash in the Under-17 Division One Cricket Tournament final at the BRC Grounds today. The Josephians led by Ashain Daniel will start the game as the favourites as they have remained unbeaten having won all 12 matches.
In the run-up to the final the Darley Road School won all their first-round and second-round matches.
They secured wins against Isipathana College and Royal College in the pre quarter-finals and quarter-finals before pulling off a close win against Mahinda College in the semi-finals.
On the other hand St. Sebastian’s led by Janishka Perera had their unbeaten record tarnished by St. Peter’s College to whom they lost in a first-round encounter.
But they overcame Thurstan College and St. Anthony’s College Wattala in the pre quarter-finals and quarter-finals before coasting to an easy win over S. Thomas’ College in the semi-finals.
The Joes have a host of players from whom they can rely on in the likes of Vice-captain Shevaan Rasool, Dineth Jayakody, Johanne de Zilva, Lakshan Gamage, Dinal Anuradha, Miranga Wickramage and all-rounder Dunith Wellalage.
The Sebastianites will bank on Dunith Jayakody, Sukitha Prasanna, Savindu Rodrigo, Dihanga Mendis and Nadeera Fernando to bolster the scoreboard. ST.
