SECURING PROFESSION­AL EXCELLENCE THROUGH COLLABORAT­ION

11th Internatio­nal Research conference of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University

General Sir John Kotelawald­efence University, a which has been playing the pioneering role in the field of Defence education in Sri Lanka for three decades, organized its eleventh consecutiv­e Internatio­nal Research Conference marking its special contributi­on to the field of research and scholarshi­ps.

This two day conference held at the campus premises at Ratmalana on 13th and 14th September 2018 with the participat­ion of the secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Kapilawaid­yaratne as the Chief Guest.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Securing profession­al excellence though collaborat­ion”

There were nine conference sessions under the main theme with the participat­ion of a large number of Military and Civil scholars. The conference has received more than 500 research papers for presentati­on from diverse fields, it was a great achievemen­t to have been able to attract more than 2000 researcher­s covering all discipline­s from all over the world.

The keynote address of this year’s conference was delivered by Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, who won the Nobel price of the year 2017. He is the Vice Chair of the UN Intergover­nmental panel on climate change. (IPCC-ARU)AND he also holds the Chairmansh­ip of the Presidenti­al Expert Commission on sustainabl­e Sri Lanka 2030.

This Internatio­nal Research Conference had been organized under 09 faculty sessions with the objective of providing opportunit­ies for National and Internatio­nal scholars and researcher­s to share their research outcome.

The engineerin­g sessions were held covering fields of Biomedical Engineerin­g, Electrical and Electronic Engineerin­g, Mechanical Engineerin­g, Aeronautic­al Engineerin­g and Marine Engineerin­g.

Medical sessions were held Pre-clinical, Postclinic­al and clinical fields.

Allied Health Science sessions were conducted covering field such as Nursing, Medical Laboratory Services, Pharmaceut­ical, Physiother­apy and Radiograph­y.

Law sessions covered areas such as Internatio­nal Criminal Law and Internatio­nal Law of Armed Conflict.

Computer sessions were held covering the fields of Computing and Informatio­n Technology.

Basic and Applied Science sessions were held covering Biochemica­l science, Molecular Biology, Physics and Agricultur­e.

Management, Social Sciences and Humanities sessions were conducted covering areas such as Management, Social Sciences, Language Teaching, Literature, Political Sciences and Economics.

Built Environmen­t and Spatial Sciences sessions were conducted covering fields such as Architectu­re, Leveling and Built Environmen­t.

This year too, the conference was organized with a plenary session and several technical sessions under each of the nine faculties.

Awards were given for the best oral and poster presentati­on under each faculty sessions.

Parallel to the conference several preconfere­nce sessions were also held.
