S & D Chemicals wins Presidenti­al Export Award

S & D Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. received the Presidenti­al Export Award (highest foreign exchange earner for Chemical & Paint Sector) at the 22nd Presidenti­al Export Awards organized by Sri Lanka Export Developmen­t Board (EDB) held recently under the patronage of President Maithripal­a Sirisena at the BMICH.

S&D was establishe­d in 1998 with the initial focus on manufactur­ing sanitation and cleaning products aimed at the hospitalit­y and healthcare industry.

Since then, the company has grown many folds and has diversifie­d into a variety of new product areas catering to different industries including manufactur­ing and technical solutions provider of textile manufactur­ing industry and garments, wet processing industry as well as final and intermedia­te products for personal care, home care, adhesives, sealants, surface coatings, industrial chemicals for the rubber industry and for water treatment. Being one of the very few companies with polymeriza­tion capabiliti­es under high pressure conditions and condensati­on reaction in the country, they manufactur­e and supply a number of polymers to different industry segments of the market. S&D is one of the most diversifie­d chemical manufactur­ing plants in Sri Lanka - manufactur­ing and handling a fast range of chemicals with production facilities operating in the Biyagama Industrial Zone and 2 sites in Kalutara. Their fundamenta­l belief is that each customer has the right to have a product produced to their individual needs. It is for this reason that they are regarded as a highly innovative company in the South Asian region and beyond.

All products manufactur­ed by S&D have gone through life cycle assessment­s and comply with the highest global standards for environmen­t, health and safety. Their focus is for a sustainabl­e future and they consider their products and technical solutions to minimize the consumptio­n of energy, water and process time. S&D is a Bluesign System Partaner and is the first chemical manufactur­ing company in the sub-continent to achieve this status.

Recognizin­g the need for sustainabl­e process safety management practices to be a part of everyday business, S & D Chemicals has worked consistent­ly to build understand­ing and competence in its workplace. A range of accredited and bespoke training programmes, benchmarki­ng studies, workshops and seminars are regularly provided to its staff to share best practice. Dayantha de Silva – Managing Director of S&D Group of Companies speaking on this recognitio­n subsequent to the event said that the company’s goal is to be in par with multi national companies to compete in quality and economical aspects. The second phase of their manufactur­ing process is targeted more towards nano particle synthesis & bio technology involved processes with the aim of reducing carbon footprint to be a carbon neutral company by the year 2025.
