THE EGOIST

-

It was at one of those torturous evening soirees where Trixie found herself a cosy corner to be comfortably seated and pick and choose what she could eat from the range of canapés that were being served around, most of which were with some sort of topping on dry bread. Trixie had to wait a while for the tray to come over to her since the guests were pouncing and walloping the food as if a famine was around the corner.

When sipping her cocktail she heard rather loud chatter going on behind her where one of the group was talking about the wonder of their product and its branding and how well they have done and the world fame they are about to receive with loads of awards etc. Trixie did not even bother to look back to check on who was talking because, in her book, it was totally vulgar to brag about oneself and generally it should be left for others to applaud another’s successes. In the current situation it was obviously not. When we met up recently Trixie related the above story to us. All of us had a good laugh and also told her it was fortunate that she was not on any social media apps. On social media, it would seem that everybody is bragging about themselves and their great achievements and successes on whatever they are doing, be it food, crafts or any other production, etc.

It seems to be the fashion these days to blow your own horn and there are far too many egoistic gurus around. The fact though is when one does look around, the actually successful people in this town are the most laid back and never ever show off in any manner. They just carry on with life at a normal pace moving from one success to another with no flash or bragging.

We all know that empty vessels make the loudest sound and that all these Johnny-come-latelies love to brag in the hope of being recognised and talked about. Running down others also boost their very shallow egos.
