CID RECORDS STATEMENT FROM STATE INTELLIGEN­CE CHIEF

The CID yesterday recorded a statement from State Intelligen­ce Service Head, Senior DIG Milantha Jayawarden­a on the telephone conversati­on in connection with the alleged plot to assassinat­e President Maithripal­a Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa

The CID recorded the DIG’S statement for nearly four hours from 8.00 am yesterday.

The CID further said that statements had been recorded from STF Commandant Senior DIG M.R. Latheef and Western Province Senior DIG Nandana Munasinghe on Thursday (27) on this incident.

Apart from this, statements from SP Elpitiya Nihal Thalduwa, than galle ASP Prasanna Alwis, Warakapola OIC Chief Inspector Janakantha and several officers of the Terrorist Investigat­ion Division have been recorded, according to the CID.

Earlier the Executive Director of the Anti-corruption movement Namal Kumara who is also said to be a police informant made a statement claiming that he was told by TID chief DIG Nalaka De Silva to do some harm to President Maithripal­a Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the Eastern province and to ASP Prasanna Alwis in Colombo. And also to spread rumours insulting Officials of the Police Commission and high ranking police officers through the social media including the Facebook.

Statements have been recorded from about 30 officers mentioned in the voice recording of conversati­on between Namal Kumara and DIG Nalaka de Silva and several officers working under the DIG Nalaka De Silva.

Meanwhile ASP Prasanna Alwis had made a complaint to the Police Commission about harassment by DIG Nalaka De Silva, according to the Police Commission sources

A complaint made by Senior DIG M.R. Latheef about Nalaka de Silva to the Police Commission had been referred to the CID for investigat­ion.

Further investigat­ions are continuing under the guidance of Senior DIG -CID Ravi Senevirath­na and Director SSP Shani Abeysekera.
