- BY AJITHLAL SHANTHAUDAYA

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has decided to inaugurate a cable car service from the banks of Samanalawewa tank in Belihuloya to World’s End, for convenience of the tourists. During an inspection of the site Governor Niluka Ekanayake said the project would be funded by the Dubai government.

World’s End with Nonferriel estate at its foot is located in the Imbulpe division in the Ratnapura district. One of the routes to the World’s End is through the Nonferriel estate. However the barriers at the entry to the estate have been obstacles to the tourists who should obtain permission from the estate management, to proceed.

The Governor who pointed out that visitors to the World’s End should be allowed free entry to the road maintained by the Imbulpe Pradeshiya Sabha, instructed the estate management to remove the barriers, to allow the free movement of tourists.

“When I informed President Maithripala Sirisena about the proposed project, he gave his permission to operate cable car services to any place excluding the Sri Padastana. Belihuloya in the Sabaragamuwa province is a major tourist attractions in the country and one of the routes to the World’s End is through Belihuloya. The proposed cable car project would give a new impetus to tourism in the province,” the governor said.

Chief Secretary Herath P. Kularatne, Divisional Secretary Bhagya Batugedara, Chairman of the Imbulpe Pradeshiya Sabha Sri Lal Senerath and senior officials of the Wildlife Conservation and Forest Conservation Departments and the Nonferriel estate were present at the occasion.
