24 TEAMS FOR MERCANTILE SOCCER SEVENS
The Mercantile Football Association has arranged to stage the 39th Annual Moose-mercantile sevena-side Football Tournament today from 8am to 6pm at the Colombo Race Course Grounds, Colombo 7.
The tournament is to be held under two categories; the main tournament is for Member Companies and the other is a Non Member Tournament.
24 teams will take part in the Member Companies Tournament, namely: Commercial Leasing, Akbar Brothers, Amana Bank, DFCC Bank, Commercial Credit, Ceylinco Insurance, Dialog Axiata, John Keells Holdings, Smart Shirt, Commercial Bank, Expo Lanka Holdings, Galadari Hotel, HNB, HSBC, Nations Trust Bank, Lake House, LB Finance, Sampath Bank, Seylan Bank, Softlogic Group, Sri Lanka Telecom, Standard Chartered Bank, Virtusa Ltd., and WNS Group.
The tournament is to be held under the Cup, Plate and Bowl titles.
THE CASH AWARDS WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:
■ Cup
■ Winners: Rs 200,000
■ Runners-up: Rs 100,000 Plate
■ Winners: Rs 100,000
■ Runners-up: Rs 50,000 Bowl
■ Winners: Rs 50,000
■ Runners-up: Rs 30,000 The Best Goalkeeper, the Oldest Football Player and the Best Disciplined Team will also be in line for cash awards.
The Non Member Companies Tournament is to be staged in the Shield Category where ten teams will participate namely: Fairfirst Insurance, ITX-360, MAS Holdings, No Limit Clothing, Eskimo Fashions, AIA Insurance, Digital Mobility SolutionsPick Me Taxi, Union Tobacco, CW Mackie and JAIC Hilton.
A press conference took place at the Football House under Saif Yusoof, President, Mercantile Football Association where he said that the Mercantile seven-a-side Football Tournament will be akin to a soccer carnival due to the fact that the Mercantile Football Association is celebrating 100 years. He also said that they have decided to increase the prize monies while Moose Clothing Company will be the main partner of the tournament.
