INDICTMENTS SERVED ON FIVE ACCUSED
Attempt on life of Sumanthiran:
Five EX-LTTE cadres who were alleged to have attempted or had conspired to harm Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran were yesterday served with indictments by the Colombo High Court, filed against them by the Attorney General.
The indictments were served on the accused Karalasingham Kulendran alias Solai Kumaran alias Master, Louis Mariyanayagam Ajanthan alias Kadalan alias Jaana, murugaiyah, Thavachendran alias Chandan and Mahatmajee Anojan alias Kannan alias Wetri by High Court Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratne,
However the fourth accused Gnanasekeran Rasmadan alias Madan alias Waradan was not present in Court.
The accused were indicted on seven charges for conspiring or attempting to proliferate the proscribed LTTE movement and for attempting or to assassinate or to harm Parliamentarian M.A, Sumanthiran on or about 14th January 2017 at Thiruchaiaru in Killinochchi.
A Tamil translation of the indictment was served on the four accused.
They were also charged with possessing a claymore bomb and detonators at Killinochchi on or about 15th January 2017.
Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratne refused to transfer the case from Colombo High Court to Jaffna High Court saying that the Colombo High Court had the jurisdiction to hear the case in Colombo.
The trial was fixed for December 5.
