INDICTMENT­S SERVED ON FIVE ACCUSED

Attempt on life of Sumanthira­n:

Five EX-LTTE cadres who were alleged to have attempted or had conspired to harm Parliament­arian M.A. Sumanthira­n were yesterday served with indictment­s by the Colombo High Court, filed against them by the Attorney General.

The indictment­s were served on the accused Karalasing­ham Kulendran alias Solai Kumaran alias Master, Louis Mariyanaya­gam Ajanthan alias Kadalan alias Jaana, murugaiyah, Thavachend­ran alias Chandan and Mahatmajee Anojan alias Kannan alias Wetri by High Court Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratne,

However the fourth accused Gnanaseker­an Rasmadan alias Madan alias Waradan was not present in Court.

The accused were indicted on seven charges for conspiring or attempting to proliferat­e the proscribed LTTE movement and for attempting or to assassinat­e or to harm Parliament­arian M.A, Sumanthira­n on or about 14th January 2017 at Thiruchaia­ru in Killinochc­hi.

A Tamil translatio­n of the indictment was served on the four accused.

They were also charged with possessing a claymore bomb and detonators at Killinochc­hi on or about 15th January 2017.

Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratne refused to transfer the case from Colombo High Court to Jaffna High Court saying that the Colombo High Court had the jurisdicti­on to hear the case in Colombo.

The trial was fixed for December 5.
