LADY GAGA REVEALS
She’s already earning Oscar-buzz for her role in A Star Is Born. But Lady Gaga revealed why she doesn't think of her on-screen performances as 'acting' in a brand new profile published in the New York Times Magazine on Wednesday.
The Joanne songstress, 32, explained her reasoning, admitting: ‘... The word “acting,” it’s hard for me to talk about... because “acting” to me almost implies faking it.’ Though Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, says she’s constantly ‘transforming into a new shell of’ herself, the pop star explained how her authenticity sets her apart.
‘Sure, there is an acting component to what I do, or a showbiz component to what I do. But the word “acting,” it’s hard for me to talk about in that way, because “acting” to me almost implies faking it.’ The pop star also explained how her passion has pushed her towards greatness. ‘i have a nerve inside of me to do this,’ she said, ‘And I have no idea where it comes from, except that it might come from God. No one knows.’
Her new movie A Star Is Born — which Bradley Cooper wrote, directed and acted in — had its official premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival in late August. Though Gaga has toyed with acting in the past, previously featured in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel and cameos in Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, A Star Is Born marks her first leading role.
Early reviews have already praised the project along with the star’s performance, with Variety calling the film an 'across-the-board Oscar contender.' The Hollywood Reporter wrote: 'There's a lot to love in Bradley Cooper's entertaining remake of A Star is Born.'
