36,144 students score above cut-off marks
Bumith Methnul Vithanage of Somaweera Chandrasiri Vidyalaya in Piliyandala and K. Sanupa Dimath Perera of St. Mary’s Maha Vidyalaya in Veyangoda topped the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination with 199 marks.
The results of the Grade five examination which was held on August 5 were released by the Examination Department yesterday.
The second place was secured by Senuji Akithma Hettiarachchi of Reggie Ranatunga Primary Vidyalaya in Minuwangoda, M. Thigalolibavan of Jaffna Hindu Primary School and N. Nathy of Chavakachcheri Hindu Primary School with 198 marks.
Meanwhile, B. Harithikhansuja of Sivapuram Primary School, Vavuniya scored 197 marks and secured third place.
Examinations Department Commissioner General Sanath Pujitha said 276,978 students who had obtained pass marks of more than 70 was 79.09 per cent and 36,144 students had obtained marks above the district cut-off marks countrywide.
He said 350,191 students from among the 355,363 applicants sat the examination.
Mr. Pujitha said the Examinations Department would issue certificates to students obtaining more than 70 out of 200 marks.
Apart from the two first places there were three securing second place and one third place, twenty three forth place. The 23 students who obtained 196 marks each are:

The applicants who wish to apply for re-correction should submit their applications through school principals before the 20th of this month.
The Department also released the district cutoff marks for Sinhala and Tamil medium of the 2018 Grade 5 Scholarship examination.
