TNA undecided on the Budget

- BY F. ASLAM AND ROMESH MADUSHANKA

The TNA stated that a decision whether to support the forthcoming budget or not would be taken after a discussion with the President. TNA MP M. A. Sumanthiran had stated during a press briefing held at his residence in Jaffna on Monday that a majority of TNA Parliamentarians had expressed the view that they should not support the budget but reject it.

Mr. Sumanthiran had said further that the government had failed to fulfil the promises made to them. As the government had also not done most of the things as promised a majority of TNA MPS had proposed that the budget be rejected.

“We have not taken a decision yet as to what conditions we would submit regarding the budget and what time duration we should give the government to honour the pledges. There was a discussion with the President and officers of the Defenc e Ministry. After this discussion we are to meet the President and have a further discussion”.

It was earlier announced by the President that the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General would also be called for this meeting. We cannot definitely state whether the discussion would be held as scheduled or held on another date.

It is hoped to call for a debate on 25th when the Parliament sessions are postponed, demanding the release of Tamil Political Prisoners imprisoned. This debate would be a joint one with the JVP as well. A false campaign is now in existence in the South activated by the Extremist Sinhala Forces and organizations saying that LTTE cadres are to be freed. This false news should be corrected.
