Western Province wins NSF Netball Title

Western Province overcame Central Province to win the Netball Championsh­ips at the 44th National Sports Festival (NSF) at the National Sports Complex in Polonnaruw­a. The event was conducted by the Ministry of Sports and the Department of Sports Developmen­t.

In the final, the scores were 64-52 in favour of Western Province.

Nine provinces participat­ed in the tournament and the results in the first and second round were as follows:

First Round:

Second Round:

■wester■ Province beat North Western Province (89-33)

■ce■tral Province beat Uva Province (72-12) ■souther■ Province beat Eastern Province (70-15)

■■orth Central Province beat Northern Province (57-56)

Central Province, Southern Province, Western Province and North Central Province qualified for the semi-finals and the results were as follows:

First Semi-final:

Central Province beat Southern Province (58-40)

Second Semi-final:

Western Province beat North Central Province (99-29) – to qualify for the finals.

THIRD PLACE: North Central Province beat Southern Province (48-45)

There were several national players in the winning Western Province team and the Most Outstandin­g Player of the Tournament was Hasitha Mendis (Western Province).
