Lawsuit against mother who tried to poison her children

A mother who tried to kill her three children and attempted to commit suicide by swallowing poison was saved in Chettikkul­am, Vavuniya.

Vavuniya SSP T.s.m.n.tennakone said a lawsuit will be filed against the mother for the suicide attempt.

He said this while participat­ing at a symposium on suicides held in Vavuniya recently.

He said 22 cases of suicide 12 men and 10 women - have taken place during the past ten months in the 13 police stations that come under the Vavuniya SSP division alone.

“Earlier, when a person had been caught for a suicide attempt, a fine was imposed.

Now it is not so. Using this negligence in law many are attempting to end their lives,” SSP Tennakone added.
