Dialog Champions League kicks-off on Sunday

The Dialog Champions League 2018 will kick-off on Sunday (21) with New Youngs FC taking on Super Suns SC in the curtain raiser match at the Duraiappah Stadium in Jaffna.

The tournament is conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) and is sponsored by Dialog Axiata PLC for the 13th successive year.

In this year’s championsh­ip, a total of 18 teams will be vying for the prestigiou­s League title.

The teams competing are Army SC, Navy SC, Air Force SC, Colombo FC, Renown SC, Java Lane SC, Saunders SC, Ratnam SC, Red Star SC, Blue Star SC, City FC, Matara, Pelicans SC, New Youngs SC, Crystal Palace SC, Up Country Lions SC, Solid SC, Negombo Youth SC and Super Sun SC.

Red Sun SC and Ratnam SC are the two new teams which were promoted in to the top division while Police SC and Moragasmul­la SC were demoted to the lower division.

The 2018 edition of the Champions League will witness 153 matches, whilst over 60 Match Referees and 30 Match Commission­ers will officiate at the games.

In 2017, Colombo FC emerged champions by beating Renown SC in a hard-fought final as they retained the title for the third successive year.

Meanwhile, each team is allowed to field three foreign players during the tournament which would conclude in January 2019.
