Ravein Dalpatadu ranked sixth at Youth Olympic Games
Ravein Dalpatadu has successfully concluded his Youth Olympic Games 2018 run after finishing sixth in the World Archery event. Dalpatadu had a strong opening in to the competition on October 13, with a score of 667 points (out of 720) ranking 14th in the Qualification Round. The score is a new Sri Lanka Record and his Personal Best at the Recurve 60m Cadet Men’s event.
Both his 1/16th & 1/8th matches were tied at the end of 5 sets, followed by a 1 arrow shoot-off for score to break the tie. The 1/16th match was shot against Rodriguez Hazael of Cuba with a tie breaker shoot off of 8 to 9 points on the 15th. The final matches were held on the 17th. The 1/8th match was the best performance from Dalpatadu with a close match closing off with a perfect 10; an ‘X’ in the shoot off to win against Qualification Round no.3 ranked Hao Feng of China.
The quarterfinal match was shot against Artem Ovchynnikov of Ukraine (Qualification rank no. 6) and the match was won by Artem Ovchynnikov with 6 to 2 points at the end of the 4th Set, whereby Dalpatadu is ranked sixth in Archery at the Youth Olympic Games 2018.
Sri Lanka received its YOG quota place earned by Thisaru Disnaka at the World Archery Youth Championships held in Rosario Argentina in October last year, where both Dalpatadu and he achieved
the YOG MQS to be eligible for YOG.
Dalpatadu is an archer, who began archery at the age of 7, a member of Uva Archery Club, Bandarawela and a student of St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela. He is coached by and was accompanied by
his personal coach Sanath Dalpatadu at YOG 2018. His training, after being qualified for YOG in August 2018, was structured with the guidance of the National Pool Coach Michael Peart, to which he trained in Bandarawela and in Colombo every other week.
