Back-to-back athletic titles for St. Peter’s

Lyceum, Wattala emerge Girls’ overall champions

St. Peter’s College, Bambalapit­iya clinched their third major title within three months while Lyceum, Wattala secured the Girls’ overall title at the 49th Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics Championsh­ips concluded at the Public Grounds in Anuradhapu­ra yesterday.

The Peterites won the Boys’ overall championsh­ip by collecting a total of 84 points following their recent success at the All-island School Games held at the Sugathadas­a Stadium in Colombo.

Earlier, they had emerged overall champions in the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championsh­ips which was also held at the Sugathadas­a Stadium in Colombo.

St. Peter’s also edged-out their traditiona­l rivals St. Joseph’s College, Colombo who emerged runners-up in the overall championsh­ip with 79 points.

Meanwhile, Lyceum, Wattala took the Girls’ overall title with a total of 45 points while pushing Gateway College, Colombo (40) into second place.

Nipun Ransika of St. Rogers Junior School, Ambakadawi­la was named as the Best Athlete in the meet for his performanc­e of 6.23 metres in the Boys’ Under-15 Long Jump event.

Dinara Bandara of Gateway College, Rajagiriya won the Best Athlete Award in the Girls’ Championsh­ip following her effort of 12.8 seconds in the Girls’ Under-15, 100m event.

The three-day event also produced seven new meet records while one record was equalled.
