“It is a great opportunity for us as a brand to showcase and offer pieces that are ethically made”

Mercedes Benz fashion week was the first international fashion week that hit the country. It's a privilege to be a part of a bigger fashion platform that allows us to push our limits. Furthermore, MBFWSL provides all the locals the opportunity to reach a global audience and showcase our seasonal authentic ranges.

Our collection for spring summer 2019 is quarterly connected to the current season and majorly a glimpse of the next expected trend in swimwear category. It is a significant beach to bar collection with shape and form that might work the entire vacation for a person. The silhouettes are unshapely within the torso, fitting at the bottom, giving an ornate taste to any contrasting figure. Aqua Island is prominant with sustainable realisation since our fabric for this collection is a recycled ployester spandex made with recycled plastic bottles, maneuvered by our bonding technology where sublimated fabric patches were carefully attached to create the base fabric. The colour story speaks out loud, down the range as we have blended the sunset with ocean and grasped the shades of that very scenery. There's nothing that matches more than the natural colours of an island to those who live in it.

We call our collection ‘Tactile breezer’ inspired by the beaches edging our own island and visualising him/her full of life, confident, fresh and all alive in the moment. It is an entire hand full of experience that we are intending to deliver to everyone curiously noticing this brand. With the phrase ‘beach to bar' we imply to allow this maillot become a swimsuit in the water and a performer by the bar. Further, mark our words when it comes to summer 2019, the whole wardrobe is demanded with all-in-one types of wear. Calling it tactile, we had it planned to exhibit a solid yet flowy anatomy throughout the runway and adding of momentous accessories helped it to be more spectacular and meaningful.

In keeping with our understanding of the rapidly emerging consumer, we differentiate our ranges seasonally. By presenting ‘Tactile breezer' at MBFWSL 18 we hope to showcase an innovative range that will entice a new consumer who enjoys the product we offer. Also, as MBFWSL promotes sustainability, it is a great opportunity for us as a brand to showcase and offer pieces that are ethically made and behind each piece consists a story that connects with the Sri Lankan Culture.

“Tactile Breezer” will present you with all-in-one form of pieces. This is the ultimate vacation range where you're given the benefit of converting your swimwear into a fashion piece paired with a pant or a wrap skirt and walk into the party. And what's more important is the fact that you're wearing an ethical fashion swim piece where the fabric base is recycled ployester spandex made with recycled plastic bottles.

When it comes to handmade Macrame clutches and totes, can't help but remind you the frost white beach house with carpets to wall hangers all knotted by old folks. This craft is centuries old and has been passing on from many nations. We have designed a few dramatic macrame pieces to walk along with our outfits to add to the story. These were created with upcycled scrap fabric that get discarded in great numbers which after being given to a very much talented team of knotters based upcountry, where they work their stunts. We believe it is a great upliftment to these communities and it is vital for us to not let such valuable crafts fade in the future. Hence Aqua Island as a sustainable driven brand in hands with MAS Linea Aqua, has taken steps to reinvent the modern accessories with handcraft professionals.
