MAS Silueta down LB Finance

-

MAS Silueta, playing for the first time in the big League, created a huge upset when they eliminated the current League winners, LB Finance convincingly by six wickets, in their quarterfinals fixture of the 26th Singer–mca Premier League 2019 knock–out Tournament.

MAS Silueta, who earlier beat Kanrich Finance by 102 runs in the pre-quarterfinals, has thus qualified for the semifinals where they would play the winner of second quarterfinal fixture between MAS Unichela and Hayleys.

The match commenced late due to wet ground conditions at BRC and was reduced to 42 overs a side.

MAS Silueta chasing a victory target of 231 runs, was helped by three solid half centuries by Dhananjaya Lakshan (67 in 51 balls, inclusive of three sixes and six fours), Angelo Emmanuel (65 not out in 74 balls, inclusive of two sixes and six fours) and Jehan Fernando (60 not out in 60 balls, inclusive of three sixes and six fours). Angelo Emmanuel and Jehan Fernando were associated in an unbroken 115 runs partnership for the fifth wicket in 106 balls, as they reached their target losing only four wickets with 23 balls to spare.

The bottom-half quarterfinal at MCA between Commercial Credit and Finance vs. Teejay Lanka did not come off due to soggy ground conditions, as the match was abandoned at 2.30 pm without a ball being bowled.

According to tournament rules, Commercial Credit and Finance (second in the league) now walk through to the semi finals by their virtue of holding the higher position in the league points table; Teejay Lanka (placed 7th) beat Sampath Bank by eight wickets in the pre-quarterfinals, riding on a classic 102 not out by Sithara Gimhana.

Commercial Credit and Finance will meet the winner of the 3rd quarterfinal between Dimo and

John Keells.
